Planning a trip to Indonesia in June? You’ve picked a pretty good time! The rainy season is mostly over—just the occasional light shower—and the tropical warmth makes it perfect for outdoor adventures. Nature is still lush and green, especially if you’re hoping to explore Indonesia’s stunning landscapes.

However, June also marks the start of school holidays, so popular tourist spots might get crowded with local travelers. If you prefer a quieter vibe, this is a great time to mix in some off-the-beaten-path destinations.
In this guide, I’ll share where to go in June, which places to avoid, and some hidden gems that are perfect for a peaceful getaway.
Weather in June
June in Indonesia brings that classic tropical warmth—hot and a little humid, just how you’d expect it. Average temperatures range from 27°C to 32°C (around 81°F to 90°F) at the highest. Even though it’s technically the dry season, weather patterns can be unpredictable these days. You might get hotter days than usual, or a random rain shower—no guarantees.

However, most regions across Indonesia are in good shape for travel. Whether you’re heading to Sumatra, Kalimantan, Java, Bali, the Nusa Tenggara islands, or even eastern Indonesia—it’s generally a great time to explore.
Crowd & Cost
If you travel in early June, things are usually pretty calm — especially at popular spots like Bali, Yogyakarta, Bromo, Bandung, or Bogor. That’s because the main school‑holiday rush often only starts toward late June or early July in many parts of Indonesia.

Because of that timing, ticket prices (for flights, trains, or tourist attractions) remain fairly stable in early June — not inflated like peak‑holiday season.
But once the school holidays kick in—usually from late June to July—popular destinations can get pretty crowded. If you’re after a more relaxed and peaceful experience, the first couple of weeks in June are your best bet.
Places to Visit in June
As I mentioned earlier, June is a great month to explore Indonesia—it’s the start of the dry season, which means clearer skies and easier travel.
If you’re arriving in early June, it’s a perfect time to kick off your trip with some of the country’s most popular destinations, like Bali and Yogyakarta. These spots haven’t hit peak crowd levels yet, so you can still enjoy them at a more relaxed pace.

In Yogyakarta, you can explore ancient temples or go on an adventure through the caves and beaches of Gunung Kidul. Meanwhile, Bali offers a lovely mix of traditional cultural activities and beachside relaxation.

If you’re planning to travel in mid-June, it’s a good idea to start with destinations that are a little less crowded. In Java, you might want to explore Purwokerto—a peaceful town known for its waterfalls and cool mountain air—or take a ferry to the beautiful islands of Karimunjawa. Over in East Java, Banyuwangi offers a wide range of natural attractions, from volcanic hikes to hidden beaches.

In Bali, head north for a quieter side of the island, while in the Nusa Tenggara region, you can explore the rugged charm of West and East Sumba.

June doesn’t have a lot of big cultural festivals, but you can still enjoy local performances—like the Ramayana Ballet at Prambanan Temple or traditional dance shows at Uluwatu Temple in Bali.
And if you’re feeling adventurous, June is also a great time to island-hop across Indonesia. Places like Kalimantan, southern Sumatra, Maluku, and beyond are all worth exploring.
Places to Avoid
Honestly, there aren’t any specific places you need to avoid in June. Just keep in mind that mid-June to early July is school holiday season in Indonesia—so if you’re not a fan of big crowds, try to avoid popular tourist spots during that period.
Other than that, you’re free to explore! Most destinations across Indonesia are accessible and enjoyable this time of year.
